Bmx life cover shot

26 year old Bmx rider turned travel enthusiast/photographer. I grew up in the small country town of whorouly in the north east of Victoria.  At the age of 15 I started working school holidays at a local cabinet makers to afford my first Bmx bike so that I could ride with my friends. I finished year 12 and started an apprenticeship at the same cabinet makers shortly after. I wasn't massively passionate about cabinet making but I was passionate about Bmx, I used my job to pay for bike parts and travel to and from comps. Bmx became my main priority in life, I would ride up to 20 hours a week on top of working a 40 hour week. so it was fair to say I did not have a massive amount of time for anything else.  I was lucky enough to ride for a small group of companies helping me out with bike parts and clothing.  In 2013 I rode my first PRO comp and was in magazines a handfull of times. 2014 I was honoured to get the cover shot of BMX LIFE magazine, still one of my biggest achievements.

27th of September my life changed when I crashed preparing for an upcoming comp, I was ambulanced to hospital. 2 weeks later I had an ACL, PCL, MCL and lateral reconstruction on my right knee along with bone chips removed causing fear of an irreversibly unstable knee.  The meniscus  was also damaged and I was told I most likely would not ride Bmx again.  9 months of heavy physio and rehabilitation I had the ok to start riding from both the surgeon and physio. I returned to Bmx and riding at a high level even riding another PRO comp.

After years of being on the other side of the lens I found my self getting increasingly interested in photography.  My interest in Photography came from an interesting place.  A friend I met through Bmx Adam Dyson had made a move into landscape photography.  Following him on social media I noticed the content changing from Bmx to photography. I admired his work for a while until I decided to go and try it out myself, still heavily investing my time in Bmx and a full time job I did not have to much time to really go out and shoot.  I did not start taking photography seriously until the start of 2017 were I started to find myself shooting photographs more and riding less.  For the first time in my life Bmx was not the most important thing in my life.

After working the same job, living in the same area and having the one passion for the last 10 years photography introduced a new sense of adventure and enthusiasm.  Travel rapidly became something I wanted to pursue.  So at the start of 2018 I decided to start working casually for a friend and save money to get started travelling.  So for the next chapter of my life travelling around our gorgeous country experiencing new cultures and places is the aim. Follow me as I photography journey and share my experiences.
